Helpful Information
1. What does the ignition switch do?
Our Mopar ignition switches send power to the starter motor and engine and ignition controls to start the engine. Once you turn the key or press the ignition button of your car, the ignition switch prompts the battery to produce the voltage needed by the ignition coil to create the spark needed for the engine to start.
2. What are the signs of a bad ignition switch?
There are a few telltale signs if your ignition switch needs to be replaced. For instance, your car might start stalling while you drive or have trouble powering its other components. It may also start like normal but stall right away or not start the engine at all.
3. What happens when your Mopar ignition switch goes out?
Typically, the engine will stall if the ignition switch fails while the engine is still on. It will cut off power to the ignition and fuel system, causing the engine to stall. This may also prevent you from restarting your car for a while, depending on what is causing the issue.
4. Can a bad ignition switch cause electrical problems?
Yes, a faulty Mopar ignition switch can cause electrical problems. It can prevent your car from starting and cause your dashboard lights to blink nonstop. Once the ignition wires connecting the switch to the prompt of your key or ignition button get worn out, your car won’t start properly.
5. How to replace the ignition switch?
When you want to change your ignition switch, you first disconnect the negative terminal on the battery and remove the trim around the steering wheel. We recommend detaching your steering wheel if it gets in the way of your ignition switch. After you remove the ignition module cover, you can remove the old unit and install your replacement Mopar ignition.
