Helpful Information

1. How long do car headlights last?

The typical lifespan of car headlights depends on what they’re made of. For example, conventional halogen lights can last four to six years. HID headlamps can last up to ten or more years, while LED lights can stay bright for thousands of hours before needing to be replaced.  Driving conditions and usage frequency are other factors that can affect the lifespan of headlights.

2. What causes car headlights to fail?

A headlamp can fail due to a burnt fuse, wiring issues, a delayed relay in the headlight switch, or burnt-out bulbs. Your headlights can start to dim, flicker, or not light up at all. This can be dangerous if you’re on the road, especially at night or during zero visibility conditions. Make sure to check and replace your headlights to ensure your safety on the road.

3. What makes LED lights different from halogen car headlamps?

A halogen car headlamp uses tungsten filament inside the bulb, while LEDs use semiconductors or diodes to produce light. LED headlamps are more popular than halogen lights because they can cast a brighter light and a broader pattern for better coverage than halogen bulbs. LEDs are also more efficient and last longer than halogen lamps.

4. How to clean foggy headlights?

There are several ways to clean your foggy or oxidized car headlights. You can spray the lens with a cleaner, car shampoo, or light abrasive and lightly sand or wash it. This should get rid of the haziness of the lens and make your headlamps shine brighter than before.

5. How to change your car’s headlamps?

Make sure that your car is powered down before fixing any of its electrical components. Pop the hood of your car open to disconnect the headlight wires. Once you remove the clips, you can open the headlight assembly, remove the old bulb and replace it with a set of new headlamps. Once done, test them out to see if you’ve installed them properly.
